Age Graded Team Challenge
Racing is better together.
The Auburn Mile isn't just an individual race — it's a team competition where age and experience are an advantage. Whether you're a seasoned masters runner, a weekend warrior, or somewhere in between, the Age Graded Team Challenge gives every runner on your team a fair shot at the top of the leaderboard.
How It Works
Form a team of 3 to 5 runners and register individually under the same team name. No extra fee — team entry is included with your regular Auburn Mile registration.
Each runner's finish time is adjusted for age and gender using World Masters Athletics age grading standards — the same internationally recognized system used by competitive running events around the world. Age grading levels the playing field, rewarding performance relative to each runner's age and gender rather than raw speed alone.
Once all team members have finished, the three fastest age graded times from each team are combined into a single team score. The team with the lowest combined adjusted time wins.
Who Can Compete
Any registered Auburn Mile participant is eligible to join a team. Teams can be mixed gender and mixed age — in fact, that's the whole point. A 62-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man can be equally valuable teammates when age grading is applied.
- Team size: 3 to 5 runners
- Scoring: Top 3 adjusted times combined
- Entry fee: Included with your Auburn Mile registration — no additional cost
- Awards: To be announced
What Is Age Grading?
Age grading is a method of adjusting athletic performances based on age and gender, allowing runners of all ages and both sexes to compete on equal footing. Factors are drawn from World Masters Athletics (WMA) tables, which are based on world-class performances across every age group.
A younger open-division runner and a 65-year-old masters runner who are both performing at their peak for their age will receive similar adjusted times — making the competition genuinely fair and exciting across generations.
How to Enter as a Team
- Register for the Auburn Mile at auburnmile.com
- Select your team name during registration (or coordinate with your teammates to use the same name)
- Show up, run hard, and let the age grading do the rest
That's it. No separate team registration. No extra fee. Just run.
