Lower Course and Kids Fun Run High Priority

You will begin your volunteer shift in the finish area at Central Square, where you will assist with the turnaround point for the Auburn Mini-Mile kids fun runs. Responsibilities may include helping guide young participants, maintaining a safe and organized turnaround area, and answering questions from participants and families.

At approximately 8:30 AM, after the kids races conclude, you will walk south on High Street to the 1/4 Mile Marker location for the Auburn Mile. At that location, you will help inform spectators and pedestrians about the approaching race, answer general questions, and assist with guiding runners along the course as needed.

The race route will be clearly marked; however, volunteers may occasionally assist participants or pedestrians who are unsure of the course direction or event flow. Volunteers should be comfortable engaging with the public in a friendly, calm, and helpful manner.

Course Setup and Turnaround Course Monitor High Priority

ou will work with the Course Captain to help set up race cones, flagging, signage, and mile markers before the event, then serve as a course monitor at the turnaround point during the race.

This role may require basic use of a two-way radio, as the turnaround point is the furthest location from the start and finish areas. Volunteers should be comfortable walking, standing, and performing light physical activity outdoors.

Course monitors help guide runners through the turnaround area, answer questions, encourage spectators to remain behind the curb, and assist in maintaining a safe and organized race environment.

Course Setup and Lower Course Monitor

You will work with the Course Captain to help set up race cones, flagging, signage, and mile markers before the event, then serve as a course monitor along the lower portion of the course south of Lincoln Way and Lewis Street near Central Square.

This role involves light physical activity, including walking and standing along the course. The Course Captain will provide direction and assist with any heavier physical tasks as needed.

Course monitors help maintain a safe and organized race environment by guiding runners and spectators, answering questions, encouraging spectators to remain behind the curb, and helping reduce confusion along the course.

Packet Pickup, Registration, and Gear Check High Priority

Details

You will assist with participant check-in and race-day registration, including distributing race bibs, packets, and shirts, as well as answering general event questions. Volunteers in this role will work closely with the Runner Information Captain throughout the event.

Volunteers should be comfortable using a computer, tablet, or mobile phone. This may include reviewing participant information, assisting with registration or packet pickup, and using event software or apps as needed. Some volunteers may be asked to download and use a mobile application for event operations.

One volunteer may also assist with gear check by helping participants store and retrieve personal items in an organized and timely manner.

Additional event support tasks may be required as needed, including light setup, cleanup, restocking supplies, or assisting with trash removal and disposal.

Finish Area Support High Priority

Details

You will work with the Finish Area Captain, Mia, to help set up the finish area, including tables, water, and refreshments.

During the Auburn Mini-Mile kids races, you will help monitor the course and support safe race operations under the direction of the Finish Area Captain.

Once the Auburn Mile begins, you will serve as a course monitor at a key turn location to help guide runners along the route.

After runners pass through the area, you will return to assist finishers with water, refreshments, and general support as needed.

Additional tasks such as cleanup, trash removal, and other event support duties may also be required.

Start Area Support High Priority

Details

Start Area Support volunteers will assist the Start Captain with race-day operations in and around the start area. Responsibilities may include helping participants and spectators, answering general questions, maintaining clear and safe pedestrian flow, and helping secure designated event areas before and during the race.

Volunteers may also assist with setup activities such as arranging cones, signage, tables, fencing, banners, and other event materials. Once the race has started, volunteers may help with start area teardown, packing and loading equipment, removing trash bags from receptacles, and general cleanup activities as directed by event staff.

Volunteers should be comfortable working in an active outdoor event environment with large groups of participants and spectators.
